Tobacco Tree

Nicotiana glauca (Tobacco Tree)

I ran across this plant at a customer’s home, I noticed it a while ago, normally I would have gotten rid of it because it looked like a weed, but my curiosity got the better of me and I let it go. It grew to seven feet in just a few months and has very pretty yellow tubular to 2” long flowers in clusters at the ends of branches. Unfortunately, this shrub/tree is invasive, and all parts of the plant are poisonous, also it has been included in the Global Invasive Species Database (GISD 2010). Because it’s such an invasive plant and can be bad for the indigenous plants as well as being poisonous the owner decided to have it removed.
